The Finnish National Opera Chorus 80 Years – The Magic of Opera on a Summer Evening

Finnish National Opera Chorus
Marge Mehilane and Tatu Erkkilä, musical direction

The Finnish National Opera Chorus consists of around 50 top-level opera singers and is Finland's only full-time professional chorus. This year, the chorus celebrates its magnificent 80th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a special programme has been created in collaboration with the chorus masters Marge Mehilane and Tatu Erkkilä, members of the chorus, and the Opera's Artistic Director Thomas de Mallet Burgess. Audiences can expect a splendid cavalcade of famous opera choruses — in this concert, the chorus takes center stage, stirring emotions and captivating hearts.

The programme includes highlights from:
Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana,
Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore,
Aulis Sallinen's The Red Line,
W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute,
Francis Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites,
Leevi Madetoja's The Ostrobothnians,
Toivo Kuula's At Sunrise,
Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème and Madama Butterfly,
Gioachino Rossini's William Tell,
Jacques Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann,
and Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser.

Duration approx. 70 minutes, no intermission.
